Programme

Kevin Blackwell was looking for an improved performance after the defeat at Hartlepools, but he was sadly disappointed as United sluped to their second consecutive 1-2 defeat, as the home side came from behind to win at Glanfield Park. Robbie Blake had given Leeds the lead five minutes before the interval but it did not last long as Matthew Sparrow equalized within a minute before substitute Billy Sharp scored what proved to be the winner in the fifty-second minute. Leeds had made a good start, pushing forward with determination, but over-eagerness was Jermaine Beckford's problem as he was twice flagged for off-side in quick succession. Scunthorpe seemed fortunate in the sixth minute as Robbie Blake made good ground before finding Eirik Bakke. The Norwegian International easily beat home goalkeeper Joe Murphy but watched as his shot hit the base of the post. Kevin Blackwell introduced young French trialist Garra Dembele for Jermaine Beckford at the start of the second half. Eirik Bakke had a chance to level the scores in the seventy-fifth minute but he shot wide when well-placed closed to the penalty-spot. The unused substitutes for Leeds were Joel Griffiths, goalkeeper Ian Bennett, Danny Rose, Ian Morris, Robert Bayly, Sam Hird and Jonathan Howson.
